Obituary
Elizabeth Rich, 99 years of age, passed away peacefully in her own home on September 3, 2024,
surrounded by her loving and forever grateful children.
Elizabeth was born on August 5, 1925 to Frank and Mabel Munyer of Rugby, North Dakota. She
was 10 th of 14 children, all of whom preceded her in death.
The Munyer family moved from Rugby to Sacramento, CA when Elizabeth was in her mid-teens.
Elizabeth graduated from Sacramento High School and Sacramento became her home until she
met, and then married, Walter Owen Rich, who was a career serviceman in the United States
Air Force. Following their marriage in 1946 she frequently moved throughout the country
based on where the Air Force stationed Walter. Still, though relocating to Florida, Arizona,
Maine, Washington, Virginia, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Mississippi and Panama,
Elizabeth always considered Sacramento, where most of her siblings had settled with their
families, her home. Following Walter's retirement in 1966, Sacramento became her permanent
home.
Faith, family and friends were the most important foundations in Elizabeth's world and her life.
She was a devout Christian and a "prayer warrior" giving her life over to Christ at an early age
and, by example, teaching her six children the importance of respect, kindness, giving and living
a Godly life. She was deeply spiritual and was always available with a genuine smile, an open
heart, a listening ear, and an encouraging word. She was an amazing mother, "auntie" and
friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Elizabeth is preceded by her loving and devoted husband Walter (1987) and her eldest child Val
(2021). Elizabeth is survived by her two sons Randall and Daniel (Kristine), and her three
daughters Marcia (David) McKean, Sheila and Tamara, her daughter-in-law Carrie Rich, and
many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Serve Partnerships, P.O. Box 2145, Granite Bay, CA
95746, a faith-based outreach organization, which Elizabeth has supported for many decades.
